In a vibrant show of appreciation, Mr. Olise Ifeajika, former Chief Press Secretary to former Governor of Delta State, has commended the Executive Chairman of Oshimili North Local Government Area, Hon. Chief Innocent Esewezie, for his bold and people-centered initiative to reduce the soaring cost of food items in the local government.
Describing the initiative as “Food O’Clock,” Mr. Ifeajika lauded the establishment of the Community-Based Subsidised Market in Ebu, a programme which has enabled residents to purchase essential food items at a remarkable 50% discount. According to him, the market not only addresses the economic strain faced by many households but also demonstrates leadership that is responsive to the welfare of the people.

The market’s launch was met with overwhelming enthusiasm, as residents trooped out in large numbers to take advantage of the significantly reduced prices. The Traditional Ruler of Ebu Kingdom, His Royal Majesty Obi Paul Odilile Opili, the Onu of Ebu, led the welcoming ceremony, offering royal blessings and expressing gratitude on behalf of the community.
Mr. Ifeajika while speaking to the Press praised Hon. Esewezie’s track record of infrastructural development, noting that under his administration, Oshimili North has witnessed the construction of new markets, road tarring projects, and the establishment of a Cottage hospital. “He understands that development is not complete if the people are hungry. This subsidised market shows he wants his people to eat well and live well,” he said.
In his response, Hon. Esewezie extended heartfelt appreciation to the Executive Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for his unwavering support. “Without the encouragement and backing of Governor Oborevwori, initiatives like this would remain a dream. His commitment to## grassroots development is what enables us to execute people-oriented programs,” he said.
He further appreciated the Onu of Ebu, Ebu Development Union and the people of Ebu in general for their continued support. He reiterated the essence of the programme which is to reach out to the lowest of persons in the Community and help them afford basic food items like rice, beans, eggs and tomatoes.
The Subsidised Market initiative is part of a broader effort by the Oshimili North Council to cushion the effects of rising food inflation and improve quality and of life across communities in the LGA.
