BREAKING: Delta State Commissioner for Information Addresses Udu Protesters, Highlights ₦4 Billion Harbour Market and Other Key Infrastructure Projects

ASABA – In response to recent protests in Udu Local Government Area, the Delta State Commissioner for Information, Hon. Charles Aniagwu, has come forward to address concerns raised by the demonstrators, while also outlining the significant infrastructural developments currently ongoing in the area.

Speaking during a press conference held on Monday in Asaba, the Commissioner dismissed the protests as being politically motivated, describing them as part of a wider campaign of misinformation orchestrated by individuals and groups aiming to discredit the state government ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to Hon. Aniagwu, the state government, under the leadership of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, has remained committed to the infrastructural and socio-economic development of all local government areas, including Udu. He emphasized that contrary to claims by the protesters, the administration has invested billions of naira in projects aimed at enhancing the quality of life for residents of Udu and its environs.

Among the flagship projects highlighted by the Commissioner is the ongoing construction of the Udu Harbour Market, a major commercial hub estimated at over ₦4 billion, which is expected to boost local commerce, create employment, and serve as a central economic artery for the region. He also mentioned a flyover, several road construction and rehabilitation projects that link Udu to neighbouring LGAs, stressing the government’s commitment to improving connectivity and easing transportation within the state.

“The people of Udu and indeed Deltans deserve to know the truth,” Aniagwu said. “We will not allow political propaganda to overshadow the work this administration is doing. We call on our people to verify facts before being misled by elements with ulterior motives.”

He urged residents to remain patient and supportive of the government’s ongoing efforts, assuring them that more development projects are in the pipeline and will be equitably distributed across all parts of the state.
