: Boosting Primary Care: DSCHC trains Delta north health workers

…Reiterates Commitment to Enrollee Satisfaction

By Pat Gbemudu

The Delta State Contributory Health Commission (DSCHC) has trained primary healthcare (PHC) workers across the Delta North Senatorial District on how best to adapt to the Commission’s new policy framework.

The training, which held at the Commission’s Headquarters in Asaba, comes on the heels of recent technological innovations introduced by the Commission to ensure faster and more efficient service delivery to enrollees under the State Health Insurance Scheme.

Speaking with journalists after the training, the Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the DSCHC, Dr. Isaac Akpoveta, said that beyond expanding enrollee coverage, the Commission is focused on putting sustainable measures in place to improve the quality of care and ensure enrollee satisfaction at the primary healthcare level.

Dr. Akpoveta explained that the comprehensive training on the new policy framework introduced earlier this year is part of a broader strategy to empower frontline healthcare staff, reinforce accountability, and uphold ethical standards.

He emphasized that healthcare workers are the first point of contact for enrollees and that their professionalism, empathy, and integrity are critical to the success of the Scheme.

The DG urged healthcare workers to desist from extorting enrollees and to ensure that they apply for drugs from the Drug Revolving Fund (DRF) at least two weeks before existing stock is exhausted, to avoid any service disruption at the point of care.

Dr. Akpoveta also commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his consistent support and commitment to the health sector, which he described as a major source of motivation for the Commission. He reiterated the Commission’s resolve to build a strong and capable workforce, particularly at the grassroots, to drive policy implementation.

Participants who spoke at the end of the training—including Heads of Primary Healthcare Centres, billing officers, and Pharmacists commended Dr. Akpoveta for making the session interactive and practical. They assured that the knowledge gained would be applied effectively in their various facilities.

The training continues across other senatorial districts of the State.
