Truth Chapel of NUJ Holds Seminar on Drug Abuse and Prostitution at West-end mixed Secondary School, Asaba.

The truth Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Delta State Council have recently, organized a highly successful seminar on Drug Abuse and Prostitution. The event which was informative, entertaining and didactic drew notable guests in a bid to redefine Challenges of Prostitution and drug abuse which are two sides of the same coin in the Society.

In the welcome Address of the Chapel Chairman, Comrade Chiedu Bandoh, he noted that in the present world of 21st century, the Nigerian Child has increasingly become a victim of bad orientation as many of our young People have been misled to believe that being ‘high’ is a cool way to escape life’s Challenges but that belief is false and dangerous; while emphasizing that it is not freedom, it is deception. He noted that Prostitution may appear glamorous or rewarding at first glance, but it carries serious physical, emotional and moral consequences that has ruined countless Promising lives and dreams.

The Delta State Council Chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists, Comrade Churchill Oyowe had also in his remarks commended the Truth Chapel for carrying out a notable Sensitization Program which he believes it is timely and deserves prompt intervention while urging Students to choose Knowledge over Drugs and Prostitution. He emphasized that the Seminar serves a valuable platform for awareness, education and empowerment, reaffirming the critical role of the Media in shaping Societal values and Promoting positive change.

The Member Representing Oshimili South in the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Barr. (Mrs). Bridget Anyafulu, whom was a guest and a resource Person at the event, delivered on the topic: ‘Understanding Prostitution: Myths, Realities, and Societal Views’. She emphasized that Prostitution is not a name to behold and no one feels proud to add it as a title in any formal engagement, she noted that the Seminar was a great deal and well structured as the duo of Prostitution and drug abuse are in marriage of destruction working together to destroy lives, dreams and future of Men. She tied her lessons to Proverbs 23:27-28 while highlighting how Prostitution exposes young girls to human trafficking, health risks and psychological trauma.

The Director of National Orientation Agency, Mrs. Tracy Ikolomi, whom based her lecture on ‘Drugs Your future: Impacts on Goals, Relationships and Opportunities’ had also expressed displeasure with the recent spread of drug addiction among Youths while noting how it has degenerated to Students and it is only wise to be proactive in addressing them as she commends the truth Chapel of Nigeria Union of Journalists in the awareness program. She exhausted remarking on the dangers it leaves the brain with and the huge consequences it has to the brain and it follows a huge sum of money to resuscitate those who may be willing to turn a new live depend on the long term addiction to the drugs as such, it is only rewarding to avoid drugs as she remarked that no one wants to be a friend of a drug addict and no one wants to reserve opportunities for them as they are not convinced of their irresponsible lifestyles hence, the need to be in good health records and avoid the flaws of drug abuse.

With Practical views for students learning and appraisals on ‘Drugs and Brain Power: How Substance abuse affects cognitive Health amongst other consequences’, the Representatives of the Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Ms. Edith projected series of consequent factors for drug addicts which left the students emotional to their views as she facilitated a Lecture that guides their views noting that hard drugs have no benefit and cannot be encouraged. She further disclosed the various substances linking to hard drugs which have become prominent in the course of their duties as the inhaling of pads, faeces and some ridiculous thoughts that left the students yearning for more teaching.

The Publisher of the Chapel, Mr. Kingsley Azuh remarked on the implications of the drugs related views and Prostitution while seeking for a safe attention to knowledge rather than being carried away by pleasures that kills dreams. He added that the Seminar will be a valuable platform for their awareness, Education and Empowered mind as they navigate the world.

The Students whom have rented the air with a rewarding love for the program in their shared affection spoke through the Assistant Head Boy of the School, Ejiofor Michael appreciating the members of the truth Chapel for the knowledge which they have benefited from as he noted that it wasn’t a lecture of words but with clear overview through the projections made available on the screen while remarking for more of this knowledge as time continues.
