Ofoni embarks on traffic decongestion from DSC roundabout to Effurun roundabout

In a bid to restore order and ease vehicular movement, the Chairman of Uvwie Local Government Council, Hon. Anthony Ofoni, Monday, commenced a traffic decongestion exercise at DSC Roundabout, PTI Junction and Effurun Roundabout.

The exercise, organized in collaboration with the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), was led by the union’s chairman, Chief Francis Arhiyor.

Speaking during the operation, Ofoni said the initiative was part of his administration’s responsibility to ensure smooth traffic flow, especially along the busy corridor from DSC Roundabout to Effurun Roundabout where road projects are currently ongoing.

“As chairman of Uvwie Local Government, it is my duty to make sure that from DSC Roundabout to Effurun Roundabout is cleared so that there will be no disturbance to the ongoing project,” Ofoni stated.

He explained that the council is trying to create designated spaces where commercial tricycle operators, popularly known as Keke riders, can drop off and pick up passengers in an orderly manner.

According to him, this will eliminate indiscriminate parking along the road, which has been a major cause of traffic congestion.

Chief Arhiyor, on his part, noted that lack of proper parking spaces had posed a serious challenge since the commencement of the flyover project.

He assured residents that the union would continue to enforce compliance among its members.

“Parking space has been a problem since the project started, but we will keep working to ensure that Keke riders do not park indiscriminately or disrupt the ongoing project in Uvwie,” Arhiyo said.
