The much-anticipated groundbreaking ceremony for the 12-kilometre Ugbolu–Okpanam Road project has been postponed due to persistent rainfall across the Oshimili North axis of Delta State.
The event, which was expected to formally signal the commencement of construction on the strategic inter-community road, was called off on Monday after heavy downpours rendered the venue unsuitable for proceedings.
In a statement issued by the Executive Chairman of Oshimili North Local Government Council, Hon. Chief Innocent Esewezie, the Council expressed regret over any inconvenience the postponement may have caused residents, stakeholders, and invited guests.
Chief Esewezie explained that the decision was taken in the interest of safety and logistical efficiency, noting that the local government and the state’s Ministry of Works are already working to fix a new date for the ceremony once weather conditions improve.

He reaffirmed the commitment of the Delta State Government under Governor Rt. Hon. (Elder) Sheriff F. O. Oborevwori to delivering on its infrastructural promises, particularly through the MORE Agenda, which prioritizes meaningful development, opportunities for all, realistic reforms, and enhanced peace and security.
“The postponement does not affect the readiness of government to proceed with the project,” the statement read in part. “We appreciate the patience and understanding of our people as we continue to partner with the state government to deliver sustainable development across Oshimili North.”
The Ugbolu–Okpanam Road project is seen as a key infrastructural link expected to ease movement between the two fast-growing communities, boost local commerce, and improve access to Asaba, the Delta State capital.
