MR. OLISE IFEAJIKA CELEBRATES NEW YAM FESTIVAL, AS HON. ESEWEZIE AND PROF. EGWUNYENGA JOIN IN THANKSGIVING

The Executive Assistant to the Governor of Delta State, Mr. Olise Ifeajika, at the weekend hosted a grand celebration of the Anioma New Yam Festival (Iwáji) at his residence in Okpanam, Oshimili North Local Government Area.

The colourful event attracted political leaders, traditional rulers, community heads, and government officials who came together to honour the Anioma people’s rich cultural heritage and express gratitude for a season of bountiful harvest.

In his address, Mr. Ifeajika said the Iwáji Festival is more than a cultural tradition — it is a symbol of unity, peace, and thanksgiving to God for sustenance throughout the year. He expressed joy at the turnout and reaffirmed his commitment to promoting the values and traditions that strengthen communal bonds.

The Executive Chairman of Oshimili North Local Government Area, Hon. Chief Innocent Esewezie, commended Mr. Ifeajika for upholding and showcasing Anioma culture through the festival. He noted that the New Yam Festival serves as an important reminder of gratitude and togetherness among the people.

Also speaking, the former Vice Chancellor of Delta State University, Prof. Andy Egwunyenga, offered prayers for God’s abundant blessings upon Mr. Ifeajika, his family, and the Anioma nation. He described the festival as a form of traditional thanksgiving that reflects the deep spirituality and unity of the people.

The event featured traditional rites including the breaking of kola nuts, roasting and eating of yam, and energetic Anioma music performances, which added colour and excitement to the celebration.
