Delta State Directorate Partners with ‘See Something, Say Something’ Initiative to Strengthen Community Security

In a renewed effort to enhance peace and security across Delta State, team members of the See Something, Say Something, and Say It the Right Way initiative paid a strategic visit to the Permanent Secretary of the Delta State Directorate of Political and Security Services, Mr. Theophilus Chuks Aguonye. The meeting also had in attendance the Director of State Security and other senior officials of the Directorate.

The visit was part of ongoing engagements to promote community policing and citizen participation in maintaining security through the prompt and proper reporting of suspicious activities and movements in line with the MORE Agenda of the Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevworis administration.

During the meeting, the team called on the Directorate to, as a matter of policy, direct all security agencies — including the Nigerian Immigration Service, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and others — to establish dedicated emergency response lines in every Local Government Area (LGA). According to the team, LGA-level response units should serve as first responders in times of emergency, ensuring quicker and more effective intervention.

They further sought deeper collaboration with the Directorate on future community security projects and sensitization efforts.

In his remarks, Mr. Aguonye commended the team for their proactive approach and unwavering commitment to peace in Delta State. He assured that the proposed policy would be presented at the next State Security Council meeting, describing it as both timely and essential for strengthening local security response. He further stated that calls would be made immediately after the meeting to all heads of security agencies to begin the process of getting emergency response lines pending when the official policy would be approved.

The Permanent Secretary also reaffirmed the Directorate’s commitment to continued partnership and support for initiatives aimed at promoting community-driven peace and safety across the state.

The team was led by Comr. Tomi Akporoghene Wojuola (Special Assistant to the Governor on Media) and had Dr. Tesi Edesiri (Special Assistant to the Governor on Special Duties), Comr. Fejiro Igodi (Special Assistant to the Governor on Special Duties), Hon. Odogwu Onyedikachi (Special Assistant to the Governor on Youths) and Mr. Nonso Kunuba as members.
