Illah Youths Association of Nigeria Election: A Call for Unity and Renewal

By Ikebuwa Patrick |

The much-anticipated election of the Illah Youths Association of Nigeria (IYAN) took a disappointing turn on November 1, 2025, as irregularities, alleged infiltrations, and illegitimate rigging marred the process. Despite the Electoral Committee’s expected reputation for integrity, the election’s questionable processes have left many wondering what truly transpired.

Reports from the Scene and observers paint a grim picture, suggesting that the election’s outcome may not reflect the will of the people as invaders tussle for Power maliciously. This comes despite the previous administration’s notable achievements, which deserve respect. It is often wise to exit on a high note, leaving room for future endeavors. However, the current situation demands attention, as malicious actions threaten the town’s progress.

The unity of the people is paramount, and it is imperative to address the divisions caused by this election. I apologize, on behalf of wrongdoers, for the pain and frustration inflicted upon the Youths and the community. I respectfully urge stakeholders to appoint an interim government, comprising representatives from each branch, to oversee IYAN’s activities and ensure a free, fair, and credible election in December.

To achieve this, Branch Presidents should appoint one representative to form the Interim Government, electing a President and Secretary amongst themselves promptly under the guidance of the Legal Advisor to the Youths. Considering the financial burden of travel, I recommend allowing distant branches to vote from their locations. I appeal to aggrieved parties to temper justice with mercy, recognizing that community growth should not be compromised by power struggles. Let us work together towards a brighter future for IYAN.
